Lilly Ledbetter endorses Cheryle Jackson for U. S. Senate
CHICAGO – U. S. Senate Candidate Cheryle Jackson has been endorsed by Lilly Ledbetter, equal pay pioneer "honored" to support Jackson on the eve of the first-year anniversary of historic fair pay act for women. Ledbetter inspired the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. She announced her endorsement of Cheryle Jackson in an email to supporters today, the eve of the first anniversary of the passage of the historic law.
“I can think of no better way to celebrate this important milestone of the Lilly Ledbetter Act’s enactment into law than electing the first woman President and CEO of the Chicago Urban League and a true champion of economic empowerment, Cheryle Jackson, to the U.S. Senate,” said Ledbetter.
Jackson has been a consistent and powerful voice for women on issues of reproductive choice, economic empowerment, equal pay and education.
“I am honored to receive this endorsement, which sends a powerful message that I am the only candidate for the U.S. Senate that can be not just a vote, but a strong voice for women. Mark Kirk voted against this historic law – and against women – and as the Democratic nominee I will hold him accountable for his record against women’s interests,” said Jackson.
Jackson is also endorsed by EMILY’s List, the Women’s Campaign Fund, the Cook County Democratic Women, The Thornton and Proviso Township Regular Democratic Organizations, South Suburban Mayors Task Force, Shields Township Democratic Committee, Clergy for Jackson, a coalition of pastors representing the Chicago area’s largest churches with congregations that total more than 200,000 people, the Aurora African-American Elected Officials, the Chicago Defender, the Citizens Newspapers, the Chicago Crusader, Congressman Danny Davis, Congressman Bobby Rush and Senator Reverend James T. Meeks. |
