Cheryle Jackson: Honor Dr. King's Legacy with Service
"Dr. King devoted his life to equality and social justice while embracing a message of love, compassion, and understanding. He taught us that through nonviolence and service to one another that problems such as hunger, homelessness, prejudice and discrimination can all be overcome.
In 1994, Congress charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with encouraging Americans to celebrate today’s holiday as a national day of service.
Today, people of all ages and backgrounds, and all across Illinois, will come together to serve their communities as they do their part to answer Dr. King's question.
If you have time today, you can too. Here’s how --
Go to www.serve.gov and find service opportunities near you.
There is no better or more meaningful way to honor his legacy than by serving others. Please join me and thousands of our fellow Illinoisans on this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and get involved with the charities and civic groups working in your community.
Working together, we can make a difference." - Cheryle Jackson
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
